We believe it is important that you start bringing your child to the dentist from the age of 2. Our gentle and friendly dentists and oral health therapist are trained to treat young children, ensuring that their visits are as comfortable, calm and pain-free as possible. Bringing your child for routine check-ups is also important to avoid them developing negative associations with visiting the dentist, which could affect their willingness to receive treatment in the future.
Dental Decay in Children
Dental decay is thought to be one of the most common chronic diseases in children. We often receive enquiries from parents who are unsure as to the benefits of fixing decayed baby teeth. It is important to fix decayed baby teeth until they fall out naturally. This is for a number of reasons:
- The baby teeth create a space that helps the adult teeth to come through correctly
- Repairing baby teeth can prevent the need for braces
- Tooth decay can lead to nerve damage which can cause pain, swelling and infection
- Decay can also spread, impacting negatively on the health of adult teeth
